Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig is proud to be featured in a recent SooToday article highlighting the launch of our new Practical Nursing Program.
Developed in partnership with Canadore College, this two-year diploma program aims to help address critical health-care shortages in Northern Ontario while supporting the growth of Indigenous health-care professionals. The program will officially begin in September 2026 and is expected to welcome up to 30 students in its first cohort.
The article features insights from SKG’s RPN and PSW Program Coordinator, Shantelle Nichol, and Academic Support Officer, Jamie Manitowabi-Fox, who speak to the importance of culturally grounded, community-focused health education. The program will also provide a pathway for students currently enrolled in SKG’s Personal Support Worker program to continue their studies in nursing.
With strong early interest and a growing number of applicants, SKG is excited to contribute to the future of health care in the region through this new initiative.
